Leadership involvement also ensures accountability. When ethical concerns arise, boards must understand how issues are identified, escalated, and resolved in practice. Clear ownership and transparent decision-making protect both the organisation and those affected by AI-enabled decisions.

In 2026, ethical AI is no longer about aspirational statements or standalone policies. It is about leadership setting direction, asking disciplined questions, and ensuring that AI reflects organisational values in action. Organisations that recognise this will be far better placed to build trust and sustain long-term value.
